Learning about change

About Space for Grace

What is Space for Grace?

'Space for Grace' is the name of the SMC booklet that was the genesis of the learning group. It encapsulates our belief that change is a process that has both secular and spiritual dimensions; simultaneously using human wisdom and inviting divine presence. OD with Christian organisations and churches is about creating space for grace.

More than 500 people are now part of a network which focuses on learning about organisational development (OD) with Christian organisations (which includes churches). We share a common interest in how Christian organisations, including the church, can be strengthened to better serve society. We share a common commitment to integrating Christian faith with professional OD practice.

Why does it exist?

The Space for Grace learning group aims to:

  1. Inspire individual members to integrate their faith identity into their organisational work.
  2. Share knowledge and learning to improve leadership and organisational change practices in churches and Christian organisations.
  3. Facilitate relationships between members for collaboration and mutual support.

Who are the members?
Currently there are over 500 members – a mixture of OD consultants, FBO staff and some church leaders. We come from more than 45 countries in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.

The group is facilitated by Rick James, Doreen Kwarimpa-Atim, Elaine Vitikainen, Priya Kumar, and Victoria Mutiso.

How does the Learning Group work?
We currently faciliate learning in four ways:

  1. Inspiring members with weekly thoughts
  2. Identifying and sharing important learning materials through the website
  3. Periodic webinars
  4. Facilitating face-to-face Encounters in Asia/Africa and in Scandinavia.

How can I get involved?
Membership is open, but subject to approval by the Space for Grace Facilitators. Welcome to Sign Up and join in the learning.
