In the last Weekly Thought, Find rest in God, we were encouraged during the time of break to allow ourselves to take quality time to find rest in God, to restore our soul and to find ways to bring God back in the centre of our lives. This is usually possible during a long break from work or during a lovely, relaxing holiday. But what about the time when we have to face work responsibilities again? How did it feel returning to the office?
I was very much wanting for the summer break to last forever. Or even just for a few more months. I have a major task ahead of me which makes me want to stretch the summer break even just a bit more. I fear that I would not be able to cope or that I’ll be performing this important task without joy and excitement.
These Bible verses reminded me that God will provide the strength that I need. In Habakkuk 3:19 it says, ‘The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.’ Isaiah 40:31 also says, ‘But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.’ So now I can say as in Philippians 4:13, ‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength.’
However, God-given strength is not solely for the purpose of fulfilling a task or even just to help us to be kind to one another. In Mark 12:30, we are commanded to ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
May God give us the strength to stay joyful in all that we do. May God give us strength to love God as God commanded us.
