Jesus is not only promising rest as in Matthew 11: 28 - 29 that says, ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.’ Jesus told the apostles to get some rest.
Mark 6:30-32 says,’The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.’
This tells me that rest is as important as work. Being renewed physically and spiritually will give me the courage to recommitment to the task before me in a way that God intended it to be. We recommit ourselves from a place of rest, not from a place of hectic schedules, in between meetings, travels and hard decision making. Just as Jesus was sat at the well in the last Weekly Thought, let us draw from the well of life that God provides for us.
How are you going to work from a place for rest?
How will you recommit to the task before you in a way that pleases God?
